REPORT FOR SALE HELD AT CALEDONIAN MARTS LTD
MONDAY 11th SEPTEMBER 2017
Caledonian Marts had forward 402 Store Cattle at their annual Autumn Show and Sale of Native Bred Cattle kindly supported by Galloway Cattle Society and Luing Cattle Society. Todays judge was Mr John Paterson, Garrionhaugh Farm, Overtown, Wishaw.
Overall champion went to W A Mackinnon Ltd, West Dron, Bridge of Earn with a Shorthorn Bullock which sold for £1260 to J Gilvear & Sons, Graystale, Stirling.
Reserve champion came from R & W Moffat, Bowridge, Carluke with an Aberdeen Angus Bullock selling for £1300 again to J Gilvear & Sons.
Highland Bullocks sold to average 184ppkg and sold to 192ppkg for a pen from R Haldane, Cloan Estate, Auchterarder and to £900 for the same pen.
Galloways & Belted Galloway Bullocks averaged 182ppkg and sold to 196ppkg for a pen from JM & D Maxwell, Blairvockie, Rowardennan and to £760 from the same home.
Beef Shorthorn Bullocks averaged 201ppkg and sold to 286ppkg and £1260 for the overall champion from W A MacKinnon.
Hereford Bullocks averaged 191ppkg selling to 195ppkg from M Sibbald, Cowden Farm, Dollar and to £1160 from the same home.
Aberdeen Angus Bullocks averaged 202ppkg selling to 226ppkg for the reserve champion and to £1300 for the same beast from R & W Moffat.
Other breed Bullocks averaged 195ppkg selling to 207ppkg for a Simmental Cross from AG & ME Bateman, Langholm, Southend, Campbeltown and to £990 for a Limousin Cross from W Bateman, Easter Coilechat, Callander.
Highland Heifers averaged 151ppkg selling to 186ppkg from Cloan Estate and to £870 from C A Prentice, 8 West Bank, Ravenstruther.
Beef Shorthorn Heifers averaged 186ppkg selling to 203ppkg from W Erskine, Woodcockfaulds, Linlithgow and to £900 from the same home.
Aberdeen Angus Heifers averaged 193ppkg topping at 203ppkg again from M Sibbald, Cowden, Dollar and to £900 again from the Cowden.
Other breed Heifers had an average of 182ppkg selling to 211ppkg for a Limousin Cross from W Erskine, Woodcockdale, Linlithgow and to £990 From Woodcockdale.
Also forward were 2832 Store Lambs, Ewe Lambs and Feeding Ewes in conjunction of our Show and Sale of Blackface Wedder Lambs kindly sponsored by The Blackface Sheep Society.
The judge on the day was Alan Taylor, Southholm, Biggar and the following were his awards:-

2nd prize pen of 25 plus – Glenturret Estates - £52
3rd prize pen of 25 plus – Montgomery Farms - £49
Reserve Champion Pen and 1st prize pen of 50 plus – Miss Cameron Spittlehill - £50
2nd prize pen of 50 plus – I Malcolm, Cromlix - £51
3rd prize pen of 50 plus – D Willison, Craigend - £50.50
